The Morris, Hancock, Appleton and Clontarf Fire Departments responded this weekend to a fire at the home of Randy and LuJean Thielke at 1480 60th Street Northwest in Holloway. Hosting grandchildren at the time, everyone made it out of the home with no injuries. Morris Fire Chief Dave Dybdal told KMRS that one firefighter became dehydrated in the six hour battle against the blaze. Dybdal said the high winds made it difficult to fight the fire.
“Thankfully, they had working smoke detectors because the wife is disabled and has a walker and if not for the detector she wouldn’t have been alerted to get out,” said Dybdal. “If this would have happened at night, I think we would have had a fatality in there.”
The homestead is being declared a total loss. An account has been set up at Riverwood Bank in Morris to help the Thielkes. Donations may be sent to Riverwood Bank, Attn: Randy and LuJean Thielke Benefit, P.O. Box 656, Morris, MN 56267.
