The non-compliance by a landlord of a Morris rental unit was brought up at last night’s meeting of the Morris City Council. Naomi Hoffman with the Stevens County Housing and Redevelopment Authority told the Council that the west side property is currently vacant.

“Jamie Sweson is the landlord we’re talking about. He owns the property at 306 11th Street West,” said Hoffman. “He has a historical reputation of being non-compliant with…the licensing ordinance and keeping his properties up to code for the living standard. So, we are seeking to revoke his rental license on that property.”

Hoffman said a tour of the property revealed a deteriorating basement, sewer problems and electrical issues. She said the landlord had several weeks to get into compliance but the HRA never received any communication from him. The Council approved the resolution to revoke the rental housing license.
