FOOTBALL
St. Bonifacius – The Cougar Football team (1-4, 1-2 UMAC) started strong but could not keep up with the Crown Storm (3-3, 2-2 UMAC) as they fall by the score of 28-18.

Crown College started the scoring in the first quarter on a 26 yard TD pass which would be their only points of the first half.

The Cougars would not be outdone in the next possession they would score on a Daniel Frances pass to Branden Carlson of 3 yards and Kaden McKibben would tack on the extra point.

In the third quarter the Cougars would take the lead with a 37 yard Kaden McKibben field goal, off a sack fumble forced by Marcos Luna that was recovered by Matt Menth.
The Storm would score 21 unanswered points to take a 28-10 lead in the 4th quarter with 3:08 left in the game.

Drew Shipley and Nathan Sheridan would hook up for the last 8 points of the game the touchdown came on a 36 yard pass and then a 2 point conversion on a short pass.

Drew Shipley had the longest passing play of the season of 36 yards. Kaden McKibben kicked the longest field goal of the season. The Cougar defense had 5 sacks on the day.


VOLLEYBALL
Mankato – Cougar volleyball (10-10, 3-0 UMAC) takes care of another UMAC opponent on the road at Bethany Lutheran (8-14, 2-3 UMAC) to remain undefeated in conference play.

The Cougars trailed by as much as 5 twice but rallied back to take a very tight first set 25-23. In the second set the Cougars go the first 2 points and never looked back leading by as much as 8 and winning the set 25-18. The Cougars would again get the first 2 points of the third set and held the lead the rest of the way winning 25-19.

The Cougars remain undefeated in UMAC play. Cougars had second highest hitting percentage of the season.


WOMEN’S SOCCER
MORRIS – The Minnesota Morris women’s soccer team (3-6, 1-3 UMAC) dropped the visiting LumberJills (1-9, 1-2 UMAC), 4-1, on a cold wintery day to get their first conference win of the 2019 campaign.

Hannah Pedderson would use a well placed header off the corner kick of Sam Tate at 32:08 of the first half to give the Cougars lead.

Sam Tate would take a penalty kick at 49:46 and convert that into a 2-0 lead.

The Lumberjills would get on the board at 56:04 cutting the Cougars lead in half. Hannah Pedderson would use another Sam Tate corner kick to get the 2 goal lead back at 61:04.

Brook Lorentz would create some more scoring on her own at 73:45. The Cougars would have their highest offensive output wth 10 points and 4 goals.

Hannah Pedderson would have individual highs with 4 points and 2 goals. The Coguars defense only allowed 3 shots on goal.


MEN’S SOCCER
MORRIS – The Minnesota Morris men’s soccer team (3-11, 2-2 UMAC) defeated the Northland Lumberjacks (1-9-1, 0-2-1 UMAC), 3-0, on a snowy day playing on the Big Cat Stadium turf.

Corbin McCall would get the Cougars on the board first at 20:34 of the first half with the assist going to Gabe Arreguin.

Arreguin scored a header off a Devon Thompson pass at 39:24. Thompson took a free kick from the top of the box and find the back of the net to give to make the score 3-0 at the end of the first half.

The Cougars gave he Lumberjacks a penalty kick at 47:14 for their only goal of the game.

Cougars set season highs of 14 shots with 9 shots being on goal. Gabe Arreguin had a season high of three points. Devon Thompson set a his season high for 4 shots and 3 on goal.
