A different kind of community meal will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church: a Mediterranean Community Meal will be presented by the Muslim Student Association of the University of Minnesota Morris. Uzbekistan native and President of the MSA Esmira Alieva told the KMRS Community Connection that the meal will offer a chance to converse with people from other cultures, which is a big part of the culture in other parts of the world.

“We all like to cook, we all like to eat, and then have conversation over it,” said Alieva. “I think it truly brings people together. It’s so much easier to connect in the kitchen when you’re chopping some vegetables with some volunteer maybe you’ve never met before. But it’s so much easier to talk to them because you’re chopping the same potatoes…and then you truly get to know people.”

The meal will feature a variety of foods from many different countries in the Muslim world, all of them home recipes. The meal at the Morris church is free.
