Section 6A-South Semifinals

BARRETT – Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley will have a chance to defend their sub-section title after a four-set victory over Brandon-Evansville on Friday.

The Wolverines defeated the Chargers 25-15, 25-15, 18-25, 25-16 from West Central Area high school to set up a meeting with top-seed Henning on Tuesday.

The Wolverines jumped on the Chargers early in set one after Emma Wulff served them to a 10-3 lead and never looked back. Set two was back-n-forth before CGB pulled away late. Looking for the sweep, the Wolverines again jumped out to an early lead in set three 9-3, but the Chargers regrouped and got the duo of Mikenna Pattrin and Bailey Schaefer going and rallied past CGB with 22 of the next 29 points.

Tied at 11 in the fourth set, the Wolverines strung together a run of six straight points, and held off the Chargers from there.

Jessica Moberg had 20 assists with eight kills, Lora Botker tallied 12 kills with nine assists, Matiah Turner had seven kills with four blocks, while Reanna Ward added seven kills and three blocks.

Schaefer led the Chargers with 14 kills and eight digs, Pattrin added eight kills while Korrie Randt tallied 24 assists.

The Chargers season ends with a mark of 18-8, the Wolverines are now 24-4.

CROSS COUNTRY

Section 6A Team Meet
PIERZ – West Central Area won the section title in boys cross country on Friday with a first place finish at the 6A meet from Pierz.

Jacob Bright took second to lead the Knights, while Alex Salwasser (5th), Jack Van Kempen (6th), and Kade Runge (10th) each placed in the top ten.

Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta finished eighth, Benson/KMS took sixth.

The Tiger girls took fifth place, just behind Minnewaska and just ahead of West Central Area. Staples-Motley won the section title.

SWIMMING & DIVING

West Central Conference Meet
MONTEVIDEO – The Minnewaska/Morris Area Gators took third place at the West Central Conference championships from Montevideo on Friday in swimming & diving.

Audrey Dorweiler was second in each the 200 IM and 100 butterfly, Julia Kuehne and Michele Stai were 5-6 in the 50 free, while Jaida Hess took fourth in the 1M diving event.

Shannon Daugherty was fifth in 500 free, Bailey Schoen was fifth in the 100 backstroke, Daugherty, Kuehne, Stai, and Dorweiler took fourth in the 200 free relay.

Hannah Hoffmann, Daugherty, Schoen, and Makenna Hufford took third in the 400 Free relay. Schoen, Elizabeth Murken, Stai, and Dorweiler too fourth in the 200 medley relay.

Sauk Centre won the conference title.
