MONTEVIDEO – The Cinderella run by Minnewaska Area continued on Thursday night with a sweep of top-seeded New London-Spicer in the section 3AA-North championship 28-26, 25-21, 25-23.
Trailing 16-8 in the first set, the Lakers flipped the momentum with a run of six straight points, taking 12 of the next 15 points. They had the Wildcats facing game-point at 24-21, but New London-Spicer came back with five of the next six points to take a 26-25 lead.
The Lakers then had a response of their own, scoring the final three points for a 28-26 win.
The Lakers led for much of the second set and fought off a late rally by the Wildcats in set two. Set three was a battle, and with the Lakers leading 22-15, the Wildcats went on a run and tied the set at 23 before the Lakers came back with back-to-back kills to take the match.
Ellie Danielson led Minnewaska with 16 kills, Sara Geiser had 25 assists, Avery Hoeper added six kills, three blocks, and two aces.
Kendra Bagley had seven kills and eight digs for the Wildcats who finish the year 25-3. The Lakers are now 16-10 and will face the Marshall Tigers for the section title on Saturday night from Southwest MN State at 6:00.
