Stevens County residents will see about a 3 percent increase in their waste collection fees starting with the new year. County Environmental Services Director Bill Kleindl told the Stevens County Board of Commissioners at their regular meeting on Tuesday that the tipping, or processing, fee for Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management will go up 4 percent beginning January 1, 2020, and the North Dakota landfill the County deals with will raise its price $1 a ton.

“The Solid Waste Committee recommends that the County Board authorize Engebretson Disposal and Recycling to increase the cost for city, rural and commercial accounts to pay for this tipping fee,” said Kleindl. “Along with that, I’ve also included a letter that would go out to all the cities to indicate this fee increase. And that will hopefully give them time by the first of the year to adjust their billing rates.”

Morris city residents will see a 16 cents per month increase, rural county residents will see a 40 cents per month increase, and commercial entities will see a $2.40 per month increase.
