John Braaten, age 90 of Alexandria, Minnesota, passed away Saturday, November 9, 2019, surrounded by family at Edgewood in Alexandria.
Visitation John M. Braaten will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria, MN. Visitation will continue on Friday, November 15th, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN.
Funeral services John Milton Braaten will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria, MN. Burial will follow in Nora Lutheran Cemetery in Kensington, MN.
John was born on July 1, 1929, to John O. and Mina (Larson) Braaten. He farmed with his brother, Obert, south of Kensington, MN, until February 1954 when he was drafted into the army. He was stationed in Camden, New Jersey, at a 90 mm gun base and worked with radar until July of 1956. He married Beverly Bennett of Lowry, MN, on July 30, 1954.
After selling the farm and moving to Alexandria, he worked for the Alexandria City Park Department and 27 years for the Minnesota Highway Department. He loved to fix things and did some woodworking. He enjoyed camping, fishing, square dancing, snowmobiling, and traveling on bus trips. He was generous and had a good sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years: Beverly; daughter: Terry (Jim) Johnson of Maple Grove, MN; granddaughters: Christine of Rhode Island and Jennifer of Seattle, WA; and 28 beloved nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by Terry’s in-law family.
