A General Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) signup is scheduled to open in December and run through February. Adam Erickson with Stevens Soil and Water Conservation District told the KMRS Community Connection that the program sets aside land that’s difficult to farm for wildlife, and that it’s been a long time since there has been a General signup.
“We haven’t had a General for several years,” said Erickson. “The intention of that program is to put in some of the land that might not be eligible for the Continuous signup, which is the one that’s available every year. There’s a couple of different, additional practices that allow a more diverse landscape to go in. There’s more land that’s eligible under a General CRP signup.”
The Continuous CRP signup will also open in December and run through the spring. Information and applications for these programs will be available in December.
