Morris Fire Department Firefighter Austin Schmidgall was named the 2019 Firefighter of the Year, during the department’s annual operations meeting on Monday at the Morris Fire Station.
Fire Chief Dave Dybdal explained that the criteria for being Firefighter of the Year includes performance beyond normal duties, appreciation of the work, having a positive impact and being an all-around good person. “Austin has gone above and beyond normal duties and is very passionate about being a Morris Firefighter,” said Dybdal
Austin Schmidgall is also the Fire Department’s Chaplain. Schmidgall has been a member of the fire department for 5 years.
