With winter upon us, Karen Berget of American Eagle Realty in Morris told KMRS of a few money-saving tips for the new year on the Ask the Experts program. Perhaps the hardest working appliance in the winter is the furnace, and Berget said keeping it clean can save you money in the long run.
“This time of year we should be changing our furnace filter,” said Berget. “So, if you have a forced air furnace you should be changing that furnace filter probably monthly at this point. Just because, if you keep that furnace clean, it’s not going to work as hard. And your house will stay a little bit cleaner because that’s pulling out some of the dust and allergens as it’s moving through.”
For those households with a boiler system, Berget suggested keeping an eye on the pressure valve to make sure it’s set correctly.
