Emergency personnel conducted an active shooter drill in mid-December at the Herman-Norcross school, which sparked a discussion about increasing school safety at that month’s school board meeting. The school board is looking at installing a new front door, with perhaps locked inner doors. The Grant County Herald reported that Superintendent Rick Bleichner has been gathering prices for these enhancements.
Also, during the Truth in Taxation portion of the school board meeting, the superintendent said the levy amount is down 36 percent from last year. Additional funds from the state are expected to make up a portion of the difference.
