MEN’S BASKETBALL
ST. PAUL – The University of Minnesota Morris men’s basketball team (4-10, 1-5 UMAC) fell 96-86 at Northwestern (9-6, 5-1 UMAC) Wednesday night.

Four minutes into the game, freshman Jaret Johnson connected on a 3-pointer to give the Cougars an early 10-6 lead. Northwestern would respond with a 14-4 run to take a 20-16 lead with 11:56 to go in the first half.

Down the final stretch of the opening half, Northwestern built a nine-point lead at 43-34 heading into halftime.

The Eagles opened up the second half with a 13-5 to take a 56-39 lead over the Cougars with 16:14 to play in regulation. Ian Carlin made a pair of free throws to bring the Cougars within four points at 67-63 with 8:20 to play in regulation, but Northwestern built a double-digit lead and never looked back en route to the victory.

Johnson finished the game with 20 points – his second career 20-point outing – and six rebounds. Kenneth Riley tallied 16 points, Carlin and James Pendleton each scored 11 points. Along with his 11 points, Carlin led the Cougars with seven rebounds.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
ST. PAUL – The University of Minnesota Morris women’s basketball team (8-6, 4-2 UMAC) dropped a 76-62 decision at Northwestern (9-6, 5-1 UMAC) Wednesday. Mia Wassink led the Cougars with 15 points.

Midway through the first quarter, the two teams were tied at 11-11, but Northwestern closed out the first quarter with an 11-5 run.

The Cougars were able to bring the deficit to five points at 22-17 with 8:05 to play in the first half but Northwestern held a 37-28 advantage at halftime.

Lexus Eagle Chasing brought the game back to four points at 39-35 with 7:58 to go in the third quarter with a 3-pointer, but Northwestern then went on a 7-0 run to make it 46-35.
With 3:41 to play in regulation, Lexie Winter hit a 3-pointer to bring the Cougars back within five points at 66-61, but once again Northwestern responded with a 7-0 run.

Along with her 15 points, Wassink tallied seven rebounds, Eagle Chasing tallied 13 points and seven rebounds. Abby Van Kempen finished the game with 10 points and seven rebounds.
