The Annual Day of Service for MLK Day will culminate with a free community meal tonight in the Morris Area Elementary School cafeteria. Sarah Eckel with the University of Minnesota Morris Office of Community Engagement told the KMRS Community Connection what’s on the special menu, which was made with input from the Office of Equity, Diversity and Intercultural Programs, the Black Student Union, and United Students for Africa.

“The Soul Food dinner will be at the school from 5:30 to 7:30,” said Eckel. “We’ll be serving a baked Mac ‘N’ Cheese, we’ll do oven-baked fried chickens. Then we’re gonna make collard greens, red beans and rice. Planning on doing some cornbread and then apple crisp for dessert.”

Members of the public can also participate in free poster printmaking from 6 to 7 p.m. at the event. The meal will be preceded by an evening program from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. where elementary students will display some of the theatrical, poems and art pieces that were done throughout the day in special programming led by the Morris Area High School Drama Club and U of M Morris students.
