Nada Carter of Glenwood is at the American Farm Bureau convention in Austin, Texas, representing Pope County, whose project titled “Ag Career Days” was one of 24 projects in the nation selected to be shown at the national meeting. She told broadcaster Jim Bartels where she got the inspiration for the project.
“My daughter went to a Career Fair when she was in 7th Grade and I’d asked her when she came home how many ag careers were represented at the Career Fair,” Carter recalled. “And she said, ‘Well, there was one.’ And I thought, in a rural community with a lot of businesses that require employees, that’s a problem. They need to know there are more careers in agriculture than just one.”
Carter said her focus was geared for 7th and 8th graders, so they still have time to choose the proper classes for an ag career when they get to high school. The complete interview with Nada Carter can be found on our website at kmrskkok.com.
