Alan Roebke of Informed TV made a request this week to members of the Alexandria City Council to pursue jet passenger service out of the Alexandria Airport. He made the case that with a runway extension of about 1000 feet, the Alex airport could handle 50-seat jets, which he said would be good for business and vacation travelers. Roebke noted that Thief River Falls has 8-seat charter planes going out of its airport, but has been looking at the idea of limited jet service.
“Maybe Collin Peterson as well as others could work with us to see that maybe a few days a week or one flight a day that some airplane can meet in Alexandria and take it to Minneapolis,” Roebke said. “But I’m actually (looking at) more (than that). In the summertime, we could go to Omaha, Des Moines, Rochester, Kansas City and St. Louis, and that type of thing.”
Roebke even mused about possible flights to Florida in the winter. He plans to bring the idea up at the next meeting of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.
