ST. PAUL – Three UMN Morris student-athletes were honored with Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week plaudits, as announced by the conference office Monday.

For the Cougars, Hailey Gill received the UMAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week award, McKenna Langerud was tabbed the UMAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, and Trent Merkins was named the UMAC Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.

Gill won the shot put at the Bethel Gene Glader Classic on Saturday. She recorded mark of 12.63 meters (41-5.25) which ranks 38th in Division III and third-best in school history.

Langerud won the 3,000-meter run, clocking a personal-best time of 11:15.03. That time is tops the UMAC and is eighth-best in school history.

Trent Merkins took first in the shot put with a winning mark of 14.74 meters (48-4.5). It’s his season-best mark also ranks 37th in Division III (15.17 meters/49-7.75)
