The Morris City Council discussed improvements to East Side Park at their regular meeting on Tuesday, as they approved placing ads to accept bids for a number of this year’s improvement projects. Morris City Manager Blaine Hill told the KMRS Community Connection that dealing with the big piece of blacktop in the middle of the park – which used to be used for a skating rink – will be dealt with.

“It’s a big black piece of blacktop in the middle of a beautiful park and so what we’re going to do is pull that out and put in some bleacher pads for the bleachers, put in grass so that there’s going to be a grassy area in front of the music stage,” said Hill.

The current basketball hoop will be coming down, but another half-court basketball area, similar to the one at Pomme de Terre Park, will be established in another area of the park. Hill said a number of trees will also be planted that will eventually provide some shade for those watching performances on the stage. The Park Board will also be discussing what else to do with East Side Park at their future meetings.
