Issues of accountability will be high on the Republican agenda at the State Capitol during this year’s Legislative Session. District 12A State Representative Jeff Backer of Browns Valley told the KMRS Legislator’s Corner program that he already had a blunt discussion with DNR officials about what he referred to as their “my way or the highway” position on a number of issues. But the main target will be the Department of Human Services.

“One of our main, main three points this year is accountability,” said Backer. “There’s chaos. There’s misspending, there’s mismanagement at DHS. And that happens when agencies are not close, government is not close to the people.”

Other big issues at the Capitol this session will include the amount of the bonding bill, what to do with the budget surplus, and gun issues.
