Morris Area High School senior Sara Hoffman was one of 10 competitors at the State Poetry Out Loud poetry recitation contest, which was held yesterday on the campus of Minnesota State University in Mankato. Contestants had to memorize and present three poems. The top six competitors received medals. Hoffman received an Honorable Mention and a consolation gift bag. Also receiving Honorable Mention was former Morris resident Isaac Udelhofen, the son of Christa and Joe Udelhofen, who is a freshman at Arcadia Charter School in Northfield.

Winning the event was Jay Mackbee, a sophomore at Washburn High School in Minneapolis, who will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Poetry Out Loud Finals.
