State Individual Tournament
ST. PAUL – MAHACA’s Ethan Lebrija and Dalton Rose advanced to the class 2A semifinals at the state wrestling tournament on Friday from the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
Lebrija earned a pair of major decisions at 126 lbs., including 20-7 defeat of South St. Paul’s Will Nihart in the first round, and 20-8 over Trevor Radunz of Pierz. Lebrija now faces top-seeded Joey Thompson of Totino-Grace on Saturday.
Rose earned a 12-2 major over Mahtomedi’s Nate Kujawa before edging Jagger Greenwood of Hibbing 7-5 at 182 lbs. Rose faces no. 2 Quayin Short of Simley in the semi’s.
Davin Rose lost by pinfall to Princeton’s Landen Parent at 120, but bounced back to defeat Griffen Lundeen of Thief River Falls 5-2.

In Class A action, Minnewaska has three wrestlers in the semifinals with Tyson Meyer at 170, Tyler Van Luik at 195, Dylan Jergenson 220.
Jakob Swalla bookended a second round loss with a pair of wins and will continue on in the wrestlebacks on Saturday. Easton McCrory went 0-2 at 126.

West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville’s Jordan Lohse will wrestle in the 138 lb. semifinals after a first round pinfall and a 2-1 overtime decision in round two.
Nathaniel Kisgen is in the wrestlebacks going 2-1 at 170 lbs., Anthony Sykora went 1-2 at 138 lbs., Hunter Gruchow was 0-2 and Devin Stone lost his lone match.

For Border West, Eli Larson went 0-2 while Jace Olson was 0-1.

Belgrad-Brooten-Elrosa is represented in the semifinals by 106 pounder Walker Bents and Blaine Fischer at 132.
The upset of the day may have been the Jaguars Canon Swanson, the top-seed at 145 lbs. suffering his first loss of the season in the second round to New York Mills’ Gabe Geiser by pinfall at 5:08. Swanson did win his wrestlebacks match and will continue today.
Ryan Jensen went 2-1 at 113 lbs., Michael Doubek is alive at 195 going 1-1. Tyler Jensen went 0-1, Evan Young was 0-2.

Benson’s Thomas Dineen advanced to the 182 lb. semifinals, while Adam Zosel lost his lone match.

BOYS BASKETBALL

West Central Area 76, Underwood 44
BARRETT – West Central Area wrapped up the regular season and the no. 1 seed in section 6A-South with a 76-44 victory over Underwood.
The Knights shot 53% and were 11-26 on threes. Jack Van Kempen led with 21 points and 11 rebounds, Grant Beuckens had 16 points, seven assists and three steals; Jacob Bright added 15 points, seven assists and three steals as the Knights improved to 24-2 on the season. Krosby Aasness led the Rockets with 12 points as they fall to 2-22.
