Swift County Dispatch received a phone call Monday night from a female about a burglary in progress at 2130 60th St NW in Appleton. The caller said she was shot with her own pistol after struggling with a person who entered her residence. Swift County Deputies arrived within five minutes finding 48-year-old Kim Holthaus inside the house alone with a gunshot wound to the forearm.

Holthaus told deputies she noticed a person on her outside camera, so she went to a room in the house and obtained a pistol. When she turned around, a male, tall and muscular, grabbed the pistol that she was holding and struggled with Holthaus. The gun eventually fired, striking Holthaus in the forearm and the intruder left in a vehicle immediately.

Holthaus was treated at the scene then transported to the Appleton Area Hospital where she was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries. There is no description of the vehicle and the only description of the alleged intruder is tall and muscular. (It was dark in the room where the struggle took place.) lf anyone has seen anything out of the ordinary or has any information, contact the Swift County Sheriff’s Office.
