MORRIS – Ellie Dague scored 32 points and Henning punched their ticket to the girls state basketball tournament with a 56-50 defeat of West Central Area.
Kaylyn Ulrich’s hot shooting in the first half along with suffocating defense helped the Knights build a 12-point lead, but the Hornets were able to trim it to just six by halftime.
For roughly 10 minutes of the first half the Knights were able to cling to the lead, but the Hornets eventually moved in front. The lead would then change hands a couple more times before Henning sealed the win in the closing minutes with efficient free throw shooting, going 18-21 for the night.
Lexi Bright had 15 points for the Knights who shot 55 percent in the first half, but just 38 percent in the second half. Ulrich finished with 14 points and West Central Area’s season ends with a mark of 22-8.
Along with Dague’s 32, Sydney Eckhoff added seven points with 10 rebounds and the Hornets overcame 20 turnovers to advance to their first state tournament with a record of 28-2.
