MOORHEAD – The West Central Area Knights are within one win of a state tournament appearance following their 68-47 victory over Hancock for the 6A-South title on Monday from Concordia in Moorhead.

The Knights led by 16 at halftime but the Owls wouldn’t go away as two went back-and-forth in the second half until the deficit was trimmed to just nine.

As they have all season, the Knights came up with big defensive stops and timely shots to kill any momentum swing for the Owls.

The Knights shot 48 percent from the floor, hitting 10-27 threes to win their 17th straight game and a chance to avenge one of their two losses on the season when they face Henning for the section title on Thursday night at Concordia.

Grant Beucken led the Knights with 18 points and five rebounds, Jack Van Kempen had 13 points with nine boards, Gage Staples added 13 points, eight rebounds, and Tate Christenson chipped in nine points as they move to 27-2 on the season.

Matt Thompson wrapped up a fantastic season for the Owls with 20 points and 11 rebounds, Preston Rohloff had 10 points, Daniel Milander added nine points, five boards and three assists. The Owls season ends with a mark of 20-9.

The Knights and Hornets tipoff on Thursday will be at 7:00 pm. You can hear the game on 95.7 KKOK.
