Funerals are, by definition, a social gathering. So trying to observe social distancing guidelines and discourage large groups has made for difficult days for funeral directors. Shane Decker of Pedersen Funeral Home in Morris and Starbuck Funeral Home in Starbuck told the KMRS Community Connection that even a small, private ceremony is healthier for a family as it provides some closure.
“This has been probably the most trying time in my career,” said Decker. “We at the funeral home — that’s what we take our pride on is serving our families. And it’s difficult, knowing these life events, that we can only limit it to those 10 individuals.”
Decker said when restrictions let up, families will be able to have some type of public ceremony at no additional charge.
