State Representative Jeff Backer of Browns Valley told the KMRS Legislator’s Corner that he is anticipating there will be more requests for financial aid to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
“I do believe we’re going to be asked for other funds,” said Backer. “We always have to ask, OK, where is that money coming from? If it’s coming from here then what does that mean that we won’t be doing? Those decisions are made in families, those decisions are made at businesses. What are (our) priorities? And those are not always easy to make. We’ll ask those tough questions. I suspect there’ll be other asks, but we’re going to have to say Yes to some and No to others. We don’t have all the money in the world.”
Republicans in the house, he noted, are not keen on the idea of raising taxes to fight COVID-19.
