Republican State Representative Jeff Backer of Browns Valley told the KMRS Legislator’s Corner that he will be sending a letter along with some of his Republican colleagues to Governor Walz requesting he alter the Extended Stay at Home Order. Backer said the order should be rolled out on a more targeted basis, with directives that target the areas hit. With COVID-19, Backer said the Twin Cities are the areas hardest hit, but Greater Minnesota has a much different population density.
“We got a diversity of population. Traverse County has 3,500 people. We do not need to be following the same procedures as folks down in Hennepin,” said Backer. “Same thing with Stevens, Big Stone County, and Pope and Grant and Wilkin County.”
Backer said with proper social distancing and other safety protocols, many businesses can get back to operating. Most medical experts argue the Stay at Home Order has been effective at delaying the peak of cases and allowing health care facilities to better prepare for the worst. Legislator’s Corner will air Sunday morning on KMRS during the 10 o’clock hour.
