Republican State Senator Torrey Westrom of Elbow Lake told the KMRS Legislator’s Corner this weekend that he was surprised Governor Walz went as far as May 4 with his Stay-at-Home Executive Order extension. He noted that medical authorities tell people to stay healthy and don’t get overstressed to help combat the virus.
“We’re all seeing the damage that’s going on to our state economy and our country’s economy right now and people are certainly stressing out over that more than anything in our area right now,” said Westrom. “If the stress of worry of our businesses going broke and losing your livelihood is worse than the problem, then we’re kind of defeating some of the purpose.”
Westrom said he would like to see any business that can operate with proper social distancing practices in place resume operations. He gave an example of car washes as a non-essential business that can still operate with no face to face contact.
