Climate Generation: A Will Steger Legacy will host a virtual event titled “Eyewitness: Earth Day Storytelling Slam” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at go.climategen.org/earthday. There will be a lineup of storytellers and performers sharing personal experiences of climate change, including Olympic Cross Country Ski Gold Medalist Jessie Diggins, eco-hip-hop artist DJ Davem, atmospheric scientist Ben Santer of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and polar explorer Will Steger.
Following the slam will be the release of a new book, Eyewitness: Minnesota Voices on Climate Change, which collected stories, poems and art from people around the state with more personal takes on the subject. Climate Generation’s Jothsna Harris is editor of the book and told KMRS that the positive messages in the book are timely for these stay-at-home times.
“We are really feeling that the Eyewitness book, which is a collection of stories, poems and artwork that speak to people’s experiences of climate change, is very timely right now,” said Harris. “With so many people in social isolation with COVID-19, there really are many people who need to feel like they are connected through the power of story and to be able to hear heartfelt experiences that can uplift them during this time.”
The Eyewitness book will be available after the slam at the above web address, or also on the Climate Generation website.
