Stevens County Human Services Director Liberty Sleiter gave an update of how her department has been handling operations since emergency measures have been put in place at Tuesday’s meeting of the County Board of Commissioners. She offered a comparison of statistics for March 16-17, 2019 versus March 16-17, 2020, and said the trends in Stevens County were reflected statewide.
“We have seen a 16% increase in screened-in child protection intakes from ’19-’20,” said Sleiter. “We’ve seen a 43% decrease of intakes from 2019 to 2020. And we have seen a 53% decrease regarding all program intakes received from 2019 to 2020. This gives you a picture of the impact of COVID.”
Sleiter said the decreases are most likely because children are at home with the school closures and not in front of those mandated to report possible domestic problems.
