Stevens County Commissioner Donny Wohlers told his colleagues at their board meeting on Tuesday that they can expect the Regional Fitness Center to seek financial assistance from the county because of its COVID-related budgetary downturn. Wohlers represents the county on the RFC Board of Directors.
“We’re a Joint Powers with the RFC and they’re not eligible for PPP or anything because of their association with the university and the city and the county,” said Wohlers. “So, there’s going to be a shortfall in the budget there and there might be some requests for us to put some money into it to make it whole, until they can open.”
Students are a big source of revenue for the RFC, and they have been off-campus doing distance learning since the middle of spring semester. The facility was closed to the public for the duration of the stay-at-home orders, and Wohlers said most of the staff was laid off during that time. The RFC will reopen on June 2.
