Jobless rates jumped last month as the coronavirus layoffs took hold.
The April unemployment rate in Stevens County rose half a point to 3.8 percent, according to figures released by the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. Other area counties were also higher, including:
Big Stone 6.5 +0.8
Grant 6.7 +1.6
Pope 6.0 +2.6
Swift 8.2 +3.3
Traverse 5.7 +0.7
The comparable statewide jobless rate was 8.6 percent while the nationwide figure is 14.4 percent.
