The bridge work southeast of Barrett will resume June 1, weather permitting. There has been an extended closure and detour of Highway 55 between Barrett and Hoffman.
The bridge replacement was originally part of the resurfacing project that took place last year on Highway 55 between Barrett and the Grant/Douglas county line. Although the rest of the resurfacing project was completed in October, the bridge portion experienced delays and MnDOT made the decision to suspend the work for the winter. Because the bridge had already been removed, the road had to remain closed while the DOT re-evaluated the plan and re-bid the project.
As crews get to work, traffic will continue to be detoured to Highway 59 and Highway 27. The highway and bridge are expected to reopen in August. For local traffic, if your destination is located east of the river on Highway 55, you must continue to use an alternate route — you cannot get through from the Barrett side.
