The Church of the Assumption in Morris announced it plans to open for masses beginning the weekend of June 6th-7th. In a letter to parishioners, church leaders wrote “if you feel uncomfortable or feel unsafe, you should feel no guilt or shame in staying home.”

New health and safety protocols will be in place when worshippers return. Upon entering and leaving the Church, every person is being asked to use hand sanitizer which will be located at the entrances. Holy Water holders will remain empty. Parishioners are discouraged from congregating in groups before and after Mass.

Ushers will be wearing masks and directing people to designated pews. Every other pew will be  blocked off. Song books will be removed from all pews. Physical distancing will be maintained, except for members of the same household. Face masks may be worn by those attending Mass, but should be removed, along with any gloves, before the reception of Holy Communion, which will be received by the hand only. The Church will be wiped down immediately after Mass.
