The 2020 Food Distribution will begin its monthly food drops with registration starting at 3 p.m. Tuesday at a different location than prior years: the National Guard Armory on 722 Iowa Avenue in Morris. Volunteer Nick Milbrandt explained on the KMRS Community Connection that there will also be increased safety measures in place.
“It’s going to be a curbside pickup event. So, we’re going to pack the bags and boxes ahead of time, and then we’re going to do registration using iPads,” said Milbrandt. “So vehicles will be directed to pull up and they’ll roll down the window. They’ll be asked some questions. And then once they’ve completed their registration then they’ll pull up and we’re going to have them stay in their vehicle the whole time. We’ll load the food into their trunk or the back of their vehicle.”
And then they’ll pull out the back side of the Armory. Participants are asked to respect the parking limitations and not crowd other vehicles, and to NOT come early. There will be someone to direct parking with curbside food delivery and registration.
Those wishing to contribute funds to make the Food Distribution possible, make checks payable to Stevens County Food Shelf Food Drop Program, mail it to c/o Bremer Bank, 701 Atlantic Avenue, Morris, MN 56267; or drop checks off at Bremer Bank. Anyone who eats is eligible for the food.
Future food drops will be July 14th and August 4th.
