The 2020 Food Distribution will begin registration 3 p.m. today at a new location: the National Guard Armory on Iowa Avenue in Morris. And, instead of picking food up from different tables as in past years, volunteer Nick Milbrandt told the KMRS Community Connnection that participants are to remain in their vehicle at all times due to new health and safety guidelines for the curbside pickup event.
“This is all going to be brand new and different for us, and we’ve never done this before,” said Milbrandt. “So, we’re going to work to be as efficient as possible and keep people moving. But it is a brand new experience, so just please be patient as we work through those hiccups, on that first drop, especially.”
Milbrandt asked participants to NOT come early, as the Armory parking lot is not that large and regular Armory business will be going on during the food distribution. Registrations will be done with iPads and volunteers will load the food into the vehicles. Anyone who eats is eligible for the free food.
Those who wish to donate funds can make checks payable to Stevens County Food Shelf Food Drop Program and either mail it or drop it off to Bremer Bank at 701 Atlantic Avenue in Morris, 56267. Other food drops will be held July 14th and August 4th.
