YELLOW MEDICINE SWCD APPRENTICE LEARNS HIS PATH -- Kyle Richter, shown here inspecting a nannyberry shrub, is working as a Conservation Technician Apprentice for the Yellow Medicine Soil and Water Conservation District this summer. The Southwest Minnesota State University student will graduate in the fall with a degree in exercise science and minor in biology. He plans to pursue a career in conservation and hopes to get a master's degree in fisheries or wildlife sciences. He has been learning about different conservation programs like the Conservation Reserve Program, Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program, and the Reinvest in Minnesota easement program, and about state and federal agencies that work with the conservation agencies. Richter said he's most enjoyed inspecting different CREP and RIM easements. The Yellow Medicine SWCD can be reached at 320-669-4442 x3.
