Stevens County Dispatch received a report Wednesday afternoon on a suicidal individual in a detached building on the 400 block of East 9th Street in Morris. Officers of the Morris Police Department, Stevens County Sheriff’s Office and the University of Minnesota Morris Police Department responded.

On arrival, officers contacted the resident who then threatened to shoot at the officers with a bow and arrow if they came close to the house. Officers placed themselves in a safe location and continued verbal communication with the resident. West Central SWAT team was activated to assist in communicating with the individual. After more than five hours of negotiating, the individual safely allowed officers onto the property and was taken into custody and transported to Stevens Community Medical Center for mental evaluation.

The case is still pending further investigation. Also assisting were the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Minnesota State Patrol and Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
