Even before he announced he would run for president, Dr. Noel Collis said he backed Donald Trump. But the Republican candidate for Minnesota’s 7th Congressional District, currently held by Collin Peterson, said on the KMRS Community Connection that he has broken with Trump on the issue of tariffs and embargoes.
“I don’t think we can use our farmers as pawns in trade negotiations,” said Collis. “I think to be the 7th District Congressman and to aspire for the seat means standing for the people in the District. And I think to stand for the people in the District means to break with the Trump Administration on these tariffs and embargoes and get our soybeans sold.”
Collis will face four other Republican challengers – including the endorsed front-runner Michelle Fischbach – in the August 11 primary election.
