MINNEAPOLIS – Twins right-handed starting pitcher Michael Pineda will miss the first 36 games, not the 39 originally believed, as Minnesota’s three playoff games last season counted for his 60-game suspension.

Pineda was suspended 80 games in early September for taking a banned diuretic. The suspension was later reduced to 60 games after he argued it was not being used as a masking agent for a performance-enhancing drug, and he served the first 21 games of the penalty last season.

A recent clarification from the league showed Minnesota’s playoff games counted in his suspension. He will be eligible for a playoff roster in 2020.
