Crews add rip rap to the river's edge alongside the new west abutment.

It’s been a little over a month since crews resumed work on the Highway 55 bridge replacement near Barrett. The east and west bridge abutments, the structures that connect the bridge to the ground, have been completed.

Due to COVID-19 shutdowns that impacted the supplier’s operations, the beams for the bridge have been delayed to arrive. Originally scheduled for delivery on June 13, the beams are now expected to arrive on July 20. This will impact the completion date, but the DOT remains hopeful that the bridge will reopen before the end of August.

Once the beams arrive, crews will form and pour the bridge deck, which will take about one week to complete. From there, they’ll work on approach panels and railing.

As a reminder, the road is closed. The detour route is Highway 59 and Highway 27.
