Included in the half dozen online horticulture education videos being unveiled 5 p.m. Thursday for the West Central Research and Outreach Center’s Horticulture Night will be a special welcome by University of Minnesota President Joan Gabel. The Center’s Esther Jordan told the KMRS Community Connection that they were excited to film a segment with her, as she was originally slated to come personally this summer to commemorate the event’s 50th anniversary.

“She was willing to film a short welcome video for us with a very special message not only for the university community but for our larger area as well out here and what the Research Center really means for the Morris community and surrounding region and the impact that we have on agriculture,” explained Jordan. “So, I encourage people to check that out. It’s a pretty special video.”

Other videos dropping on Thursday include the U of M’s Neil Anderson talking about Houseplants, Bailey Nurseries’ Debbie Lonnee on Shrubs and Perennials for Minnesota Gardens, the U of M’s Gary Johnson on Best Care Practices for Young Trees, U of M Morris Food Service Department with some healthy cooking demonstrations, and horticulture scientist Steve Poppe leading virtual tours of the Display Gardens in Morris. Videos can be accessed z.umn.edu/hortnight or on the WCROC website. All videos will be available for several weeks following the event.
