With the last enhanced unemployment checks going out about 10 days ago, United States Senator Tina Smith told KMRS that Congress must act as soon as possible on a Senate Relief Package.
“We need to find an agreement as soon as possible,” said Smith. “You know, we’re in the worst economic crisis that we’ve seen in this country since The Great Depression. And I think it’s the worst health crisis since the Spanish influenza in 1918. So, I feel a great sense of urgency about this.”
The Minnesota Democrat said it has been frustrating as the issue has been building for months without any action being taken. But Smith said with negotiations ongoing in the halls of Congress and with the White House, she remains hopeful that a general agreement will be reached within the next few days.
