Many analysts say that this year’s election is amounting to a referendum on how President Trump has handled the coronavirus pandemic. United States Senator Tina Smith is running for re-election this year and she didn’t mince any words on the KMRS Community Connection.
“Well, I think that the President’s handling of the pandemic has been a disaster,” said Smith. “We still lack a national strategy for getting testing at the levels that we need. I’m still talking to nurses and health care providers who don’t have the personal protective equipment that they need when they’re doing their job.”
Smith said a number of Minnesota healthcare providers told her they waited two weeks for test results, which she said makes no sense. The Democrat said she is working on legislation with Republican Senator Dr. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana that would create a national strategy to help states come together to buy the supplies, tests and testing equipment they need to deal with COVID-19.
