FERGUS FALLS – The Morris Brewers senior amateur men’s baseball team took fourth place in the Class B State Tournament over the weekends of Aug 15-16 and Aug 22-23.
The Brewers opened the tournament with a 4-3 win over Urbank on Saturday, Aug. 15, with Jarrod Asmus pitching a complete game for Morris for the win.
Mike Kill led the Brewers in hitting going 2-4 and scoring two runs.
On Sunday, August 16 the Brewers faced eventual Class B state champion Eden Prairie and lost 10-1. Eric Rice took the loss in the game where the Brewers mustered only three hits and committed a number of fielding errors.
The following weekend the Brewers obtained a forfeit win from would-be-opponent Le Center and instead played an exhibition game against a very good Rosemount team, losing 17-3 in five innings.
On the final day of the tournament the Brewers faced St. Peter for third place.
The Brewers held a 6-3 lead going into the bottom of the last inning, but St. Peter was able to plate four runs to earn a walk-off win 7-6.
Eric Rice tossed a complete game for Morris, Brandon Lennox led the team in hitting, scoring three runs. Additional runs were added by Brian Giese, Scott Mattocks, and Dave Rohloff.
The Brewers now look forward to next season where they hope to build upon this season’s improved state tournament finish.
