The dilapidated state of the Morris Floral building on Atlantic Avenue in Morris was discussed at this week’s meeting of the Morris City Council. The City took action against the property a number of years ago, and City Manager Blaine Hill told the KMRS Community Connection that they are now worried that the disrepair of the building could pose a danger to the public.

“There’s a major hole in the roof and obviously we had a big rainstorm the other day, which means that there’s water getting in there, and potentially the ceiling on the inside could be collapsing, the roof itself could be collapsing,” Hill detailed. “There’s another spot on the roof that has a dip in it. The last thing you ever want is to have something like that collapse. It’s right on Main Street. And for sure, to collapse if there are people on the inside…”

Hill noted that a florist works inside the building and the front doors are open for the public. They have asked the owner to fix the problems, and if that doesn’t happen the City will take further action.
