Final striping takes place on Highway 55 at the bridge over the Pomme de Terre River near Barrett.

Construction of the new bridge near Barrett is complete, and Highway 55 between Barrett and Hoffman will reopen this afternoon (Thursday, Sept. 10).

After the concrete deck was poured in early August, crews got to work on the approach panels and railing, and resurfaced the roadway on the west and east side of the bridge. Final striping is now underway and once that’s completed, the detour will be removed and the bridge and highway will reopen.

This project has had quite the list of unforeseen challenges—from last year’s de-watering issues that suspended the bridge work, to this year’s supply delays due to COVID-19 shutdowns. The Minnesota Department of Transportation thanked the public for its cooperation and patience.
