A North Dakota sheriff’s deputy was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in western Minnesota, near the North Dakota border, over Labor Day weekend.

Cass County Jail Deputy Alisha Ettesvold was arrested just after 2 a.m. Sunday by the Breckenridge Police Department, the Cass County, North Dakota, Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. It is unclear is Ettesvold has been formally charged with a DWI.

“It will always remain a top priority of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office to be transparent to the public and accept responsibility for our employee’s actions, both good and bad. We thank the Breckenridge Police Department in keeping the public safe and investigating this incident,” Cass County Sheriff Jesse Jahner said in a statement.

The sheriff’s office has opened an internal investigation into the incident and has placed Ettesvold on paid administrative leave.

Ettesvold is a non-licensed correctional deputy at the jail. She’s been with the sheriff’s office since May 2020.
