A North Dakota man is suspected of pouring gasoline on a bridge and lighting it on fire in Otter Tail County over Labor Day weekend. According to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, it appears the gasoline was “deliberately” poured onto the Highway 41 bridge that crosses over Star Lake, east of Pelican Rapids, and then lit on fire around midnight Sunday. The bridge has large portions made of wood. It took Dent firefighters three hours to put out the blaze.
A 42-year-old man from Mapleton, North Dakota, was arrested on suspicion of arson. The man was said to own a home near the bridge. No motive has been identified. The bridge had been closed until a full inspection was complete, as the fire caused damage to the bridge’s structure.
