For its 6th annual study, the New York financial technology company SmartAsset determined the best cities to retire in Minnesota by analyzing their availability of medical care, tax friendliness and social opportunities for seniors. Their index takes into account things like number of doctor’s offices, retirement centers, recreation centers and percentage of seniors.

Alexandria topped the list, with Grand Rapids coming in 2nd, Detroit Lakes 3rd, Fergus Falls 4th and Montevideo 5th.
